About Movie Memorabilia

During the past 10 years or so, movie memorabilia has become highly collectable, with buyers focusing on both classic and cult movies. As the memorabilia market is so huge buyers tend to target specific films, actors or genres. They may want to buy original 1-sheet display posters (usually 30"x 40") or, if space is an issue, target their collecting to smaller items such as lobby cards or promotional photographs.

Lobby cards are now highly collectable, the most sought after attracting huge prices. US lobby cards measure 14" x 11" whereas UK lobby cards are smaller at 10" x 8". These were displayed in cinema lobbies to advertise forthcoming movies and were usually distributed in sets of 8 cards. As an example of price, at a recent auction, one of these cards from the 1939 movie, "The Wizard of Oz" sold for a staggering £400 - though some you can find for as less than £5 each.

As a rule I would always advise buyers to purchase items you would be happy to display in your own home and enjoy - if they increase in value then that is a bonus!
