Preview: This film celebrates the Meet Weekend held every year in Barnard Castle during the late May Bank Holiday – an event first started in May 1879.

Incorporating archive footage and photographs, some never before seen in public, the film aims to give an overview of how the Meet was established along with the changes and development of the event during the last 130 years.

Filmed in high definition during the Meet weekend 2010 the film features interviews with participants including Carnival Queen, Libby Harding. The weekend events include The Crowning of the Carnival Queen, The Boat Race, Puppet Workshop, Crazy Bowls at the Bowes Museum, the Fun Fair and the Grand Procession on Bank Holiday Monday.

My thanks go to Jan Fowler, Carnival Queen Libby Harding, Lynn Jones, Rachel Stevens, Teresa Watson, Elizabeth Gott and Beth Whitehouse for their help and participation in this film. Also Angela Grady for providing access to the Meet Archive.
